The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s – Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative project is working to build and connect the network of volunteer and non-traditional water quality monitoring groups within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. This effort will provide resources, technical support, and a centralized database to monitoring groups with the goal that all data of known quality will be accessible to the Chesapeake Bay Program and all other data users in the watershed.

Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative - water quality monitoring groups mapThe CMC recently conducted a census of the water quality monitoring groups within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. We reached out to over 600 groups and received a great response. On the map you can see how extensive volunteer and non-traditional monitoring efforts are within the watershed. In addition, the graphs show us how diverse the groups are in what they monitor. These exciting results will help us shape our strategy in building the cooperative. If your monitoring group is not displayed on this map, let us know!
