ANS Joins With Other Organizations in Petition To Clean Up the Anacostia River
Last week, a group of organizations, including Audubon Naturalist Society petitioned the District Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to revise the total maximum daily load (TMDL) for trash in the Anacostia River watershed. The existing plan uses a removal-based approach which has been found to be difficult to implement. The petition focuses on measuring how much trash is actually in the river. Becky Hammer, Staff Attorney, Water Programs for the Natural Resources Defense Council (the NRDC is a signatory of this petition) wrote “it’s Time to Fix the Trash Clean-Up Plan for the Anacostia River” in her recent blog post.
