Last year ANS began a new partnership with The Green Scheme and DC Greens that launched Ward 8 Water Watchers in Oxon Run Park. Thanks to another Community Stormwater Solutions grant from the DC Department of Energy and Environment and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, the Ward 8 Water Watchers has returned for year 2!

Despite the pandemic, The Green Scheme, Audubon Naturalist Society, and DC Greens offered six family-oriented watershed activities for Ward 8 residents in 2020-2021 as a successful pilot. Year 2 of Ward 8 Water Watchers consists of a series of events engaging residents of the neighborhoods near Oxon Run Park and building community around a shared vision for Oxon Run based on lessons learned from the pilot.  Events and engagement will help build a corps of community members who are equipped to control the fate of their stream and park. All community members are invited to become a Ward 8 Water Watcher. Youth ages 8-19 years are encouraged to become W8WW Ambassadors who will ensure sustainability and take ownership of the program as it extends into the future.
